Pettigrew, John

John Pettigrew (1779-1799), known as Jackey in the family, was the son of Charles Pettigrew (1744-1807) and his first wife Mary (Polly) Blount. John remained a "regular" student from 1795 to 1797 and was a member of the Philanthropic Society. He received from the Philanthropic Society a diploma dated November 10, 1797, and did not return to the University. By 1798 he was studying "under the direction of doctor [Andrew] Knox at Nixonton" (Connor 2:355). John died in an epidemic in 1799.
